THE PROPHETS OF ADDICTION – Babylon Boulevard

The Prophets of Addiction’s debut album “Babylon Boulevard” is a dark and sleazy effort that sits somewhere between latter day Faster Pussycat and early Dogs D’amour. The album was self produced but mixed by ex- Ozzy Osbourne bassist Phil Soussan and has a raw feel that makes it distinctly different to front man Lesli Sanders previous band Pretty Boy Floyd.
The album’s 10 tracks quite literally ooze sleaze from every pore and with a Dead Boys like punk edge to them the songs have an almost timeless feel that doesn’t seem out of place in 2012. The one out and out love song on the album is closing track “Where R U Now”, which has echoes of Dogs D’amour, as does the vocals on “Mistress Addiction”, which also has some nice country style guitar work.  Although there are no weaker tracks on the album it is darker numbers “Trigger” and “Self Portrait”, along with “Still Alive” steal the show here and there are some great guitar moments from Amit Lee Ron and Shawn Smash throughout.
Overall, “Babylon Boulevard” is a great album and a welcome addition to my burgeoning record collection, as I am sure it will be for a number of our regular readers.
