PROPHETS OF ADDICTION - BABYLON BOULEVARD

It's clear that The Prophets of Addiction can breathe life into the sleaze rock genre.Pretty Boy Floyd veteran Lesli Sanders has put together a new band in keeping with his brand of sleazy rock n roll. As well as himself on lead vocals and bass guitar, he is accompanied by Amit Lee Ron and Shawn Smash on guitar and vocals and drummer Jimmy Mess. Mixed by Phil Soussan (Ozzy Osbourne and Billy Idol) and with the claim the songs are about life, death and everything in between, you know they are offering a true rock n roll ride.

Having spent some crazy nights with Lesli on a trip to L.A some years back I know this guy lives and breathes the whole rock n roll lifestyle, and the songs lyrics reflect this. If you’re a fan of Faster Pussycat then ‘Hang Me Up’ has a direct influence, credit also to Lesli for delivering a sturdy lead vocal. The sickly vocal of ‘Kick It In’ serves the song well and the lyrical theme of wild abandon has the song screaming conviction. There is some classy guitar work and a strong commercial sound to’ Self Portrait’ and its easy to see why these guys cite Dogs D’Armour as a strong influence. Title track ‘Babylon Boulevard’ is a mixture of latter day Ramones and has a powerful groove; this is where Prophets Of Addiction stand out in that they have the ability to produce a tremendous chorus and some blistering old school rock.
I enjoyed the softer side to ‘Mistress Addiction’ which has admirable restraint among the more frantic moments on offer here, and shows the band are not one dimensional. ‘Still Alive’ has a strong sense of passion in the lyrics and the guitars just leave a flaming row of mayhem that just forces you to get up and raise your fist in the air.

Anyone thinking it’s all three chord mayhem with no heart needs to listen to ‘Trigger’ with its intricate guitar passages and a Marilyn Manson approach to the vocal.

Having been a fan of such acts as Vain and Faster Pussycat this release is both refreshing and yet original and it's clear that The Prophets of Addiction can breathe life into the sleaze rock genre.
