The Prophets Of Addiction - 2010 - Babylon Boulevard

Pretty Boy Floyd is probably one of my top 10 favorite bands that greased up the sunset strip in the late 80's. By hearing their debut album Leather Boys With Electric Toys, You obviously notice that musically, it's not that original. But fuck that, combined with their slutty performances and fashion, PBF is a band you've just got to love! Anyway, after PBF was over it's peak, bassist Lesli Sanders joined the band at a ertain point. After many years, he's now promoting his own band called The Prophets of Addiction. Forget the party image of Pretty Boy Floyd, these guys bring you gritty sleaze rock!
The Prophets Of Addiction mix Glam, Sleaze and Punk into one big pile of heaviness. Sander’s voice is noted as being a Faster Pussycat’s Taime Downe and Dogs D’amour’s Tyla, melted in a more filthy, evil way of singing. This is one of the things that separate Prophets of Addiction from Pretty Boy Floyd. It sounds like a struggling band in the late 80’s/early 90’s; they keep the true rock ‘n roll spirit alive by doing this. You truly feel it when you listen to this disc, distributed by Deadlight Entertainment. They should be recommended for that effort!

The very first track gets me in the mood right away. “Hang Me Up” shows us the Taime Downe-like vocals of Leslie. I mean the new, more industrial, sounding Faster Pussycat. Gritty and dirty; that’s what Prophets of Addiction is all about!

“Kick It In” and “Alter Of Altercation” broadens the depressive glam party music even further. You’ll truly have the feeling you’re on some crazy Glam-Punk festival, including all the drinking, sucking and fucking! Anarchy rules, and these three starters definitely brings out the sleazy side of you!

“Self Portrait” has a different inset compared to the previous songs. It’s quite heavy, but also pretty sensitive in a strange way. Consider it as a heavy metal power ballad, times 10!

After this candy sweet break, the title track “Babylon Boulevard” kicks in. Acoustic. Yes Acoustic…for a total of 30 seconds that is! It’s just a plain Sleaze anthem and pretty catchy if you ask me!

“Mistress Addiction” is like a more bluesy Glam song, which brings a welcome variation to this album. Since I’m a pretty big fan of the country/blues influences in the late 80’s Metal scene, this really IS my cup of tea! Thank you!

“Rejection” is basically a Punk Rock track. Nothing wrong with that; accepted and not rejected in this case.

“Still Alive” has a Pretty Boy Floyd vibe on its riffs and drums. Just a fun song and it fits the album perfectly.

The last two songs of Babylon Boulevard are “Trigger”, a song which brings down the pace a little bit in contrast to the other ones on this record, and the final song, a power ballad called “Where R U Now”, clear inspired by Leslie’s former band. Beautiful piano outro…

Okay, let’s wrap this album up into a couple of sentences to convince you to buy this album… All right I just did it already. If you are a late 80’s Sleaze fan, this is a must have. A nice compilation of songs, inspired by the biggest underground bands you can think of. Let’s get dirty and nasty with The Prophets Of Addiction!
