Prophets of Addiction - Babylon Boulevard

Former Pretty Boy Floyd bassist Lesli Sanders puts out 'Babylon Boulevard' and from the opening few notes I get that warm glow of a proper sleazy band that unashamedly makes music that has long been discarded by many of the genre's leaders; these bad boys have the look and sound all sewn up.
Sometimes rock 'n' roll can get dissected and way too serious and people tend to lose sight of the fact that more often than not it's an entertainment business, it's not all about social commentary or politics and that's where The Prophets Of Addiction come in. It's brash, noisy, snotty and a lot of fun. Obvious comparisons would be the likes of Guns N' Roses - there is an unavoidable comparison, especially on opener 'Hang Me Up'; Sander has similar tones to that of Mr W Axl Rose - or Faster Pussycat (from back in the day, of course) and another obvious comparison would be to The Dogs D'amour in the acoustic driven 'Misstress Addiction', even down to the use of the lyrics "Trail Of Tears", but regardless of where the song might have its roots it's a decent effort and God knows the world needs bands like this every now and then, especially when the originators have long left the scene in, well, a trail of tears.

It'll have all the glam bangers jumping for joy with plenty of big choruses and the sleazy drawl of Lesli Sanders; this is possibly the best album of its genre for many a moon - if only Guns N' Roses still made records like this the world would be a better place. It's unashamedly down 'n' dirty and combines glammed up glimpses of the Ramones ('Rejection') with some super sleazy riffage like the La Guns used to peddle ('Trigger') to the summery wheeze of 'Where R U Now'. The vocals here remind me a little of Stiv Bators. A most enjoyable trip indeed.

Well delivered, well played and a cut above some of the usual trash that watered down this genre. Throw away your daily woes and get some Prophets Of Addiction. Ten songs; half an hour; Bish, Bash, Bosh! Sex, Drugs and some Rock 'n' Roll, what more can you ask for? Go on, give in to it, you know you want to.
