“ My Eyes Are Greener On The Other Side” is the second solo release of Lesli Sanders, the lead singer and bass player for the glam/punk band Prophets Of Addiction.
But what you will find here is something very different from what you would expect from Lesli and The Prophets, it’s a five tracks album and in these tracks Lesli shows us his intimate and soulful side.
On this album Lesli plays all the instruments, acoustic guitars, piano and even percussions, that contribute in creating a solid ground on which his deep and raspy voice moves with extreme mastery.
Great music must not be necessarily complicated and this “tiny jewel” named “ My Eyes Are Greener On The Other Side”, is the tangible proof. Forget useless virtuosity or impassive high note voices: every piano note, every guitar chord, here is in the right place and helps to build the heartfelt and touching atmosphere that surrounds the entire album.
The opener “Here For You” and the last song “As We Fall”, with their dominant arpeggios and catchy melancholy refrains remind the decadent acoustic ballads of Johnny Thunders, while in the midst, the piano-driven “My State Of Music” and “Throw Me A Rope” call to mind the golden years of Tyla & The Dogs D’Amour. But, believe me, no comparison at all can render justice to this little masterpiece (“little” unfortunately just for the short duration).
The feeling after the last note of the album is quite difficult to describe, it reminds me when a party is over and a bit of sadness and melancholy lie in the air.
In these days Lesli is on tour, and from the other shore of the ocean, I can see him in my mind, playing his acoustic guitar in dark and smoky clubs, while he sings the confessions of his soul that lie between the lines of his open-hearted lyrics.
Listen to “My Eyes Are Greener On The Other Side” in the lonely nights before falling asleep or before a wonderful sunset with a glass of red wine in the hands…In my opinion it is the perfect soundtrack to look inside oneself and facing one’s demons.
