PROPHETS OF ADDICTION - REUNITE THE SINNERS

Leslie Sanders is the leader and factotum of the Prophet of Addiction ... singer, bassist and songwriter ... and this "Reunite the Sinners" is their second album. Lesli was also the bassist for Pretty Boy Floyd in the early years of the new millennium and I have a vivid memory of him and of the night we spent together in a well-known pub in Camden in London the day after the show that Pretty Boy Floyd held support for Faster Pussycat.
Already at that time we spoke with enthusiasm of a project he had in mind where he could express himself alone and without compromise ... a character totally rock'n roll Lesli Sanders from extreme purple of her long greasy hair, sunken cheeks and zebra shoes, runny nose because surely a chill (it was cold in London that round!) ... between a pint and the other his idea had already taken shape in his head an accomplice his love for the Ramones and Johnny Thunders ... I had the pleasure of hear it again years after riding these prophets ... er cold! It took a bit 'of years to see the Prophets of Addiction released their first album "Babylon Boulevard" in October 2012. Unfortunately that record I had not, however, impressed by the freshness of writing and special compositional quality. Even the trade press had given rapturous reviews and the debut had passed into oblivion ... now, after nearly four years later, her second album of the band after beating the length and breadth of all US clubs, and with two European tours on the shoulders. Let's face it right away ... the new album is light years away from being a masterpiece but it is certainly more complete and consistent "Babylon Boulevard", giving here and there varied delicacies of sleaze dark and drunkard. The best bits are when Lesli you forget to be a photocopy of Tyla and walks with her legs.
Sure, the Dogs D'Amour are always around the corner of the alley but spurts of Kill City Dragons, the effluvia of The Throbs with odors acres of Hanoi Rocks and The Lords Of The New Church can breathe deeply. But "As We Fall" has the impact of a melodic pop / glam hit with airy melodies and keyboards to punctuate the chorus. Fortunately comes immediately "Welcome to the Show", a hymn to the Sunset Boulevard around Seeex Druuuugs and Rooock'n rooooll. The CC DeVille guitar peeps in the twilight "Kings and Queens", superb piece although it looks out from the songbook of Tyla.
Gothic and dark atmosphere in "Razor's Edge" while the two guitars of Lee Taylor and McKenna duel in "Spare the Bullets" that becomes every second that passes more slimy and dirty ... Jimmy Mess drumming is linear but precise even when the melodies become more dangling.
Tyla again takes possession of Lesli black soul (... and most of his vocal cords!) In "Postcards from the Grave" ... it runs well although Lesli does not have the depth of interpretation from Tyla to his songs.
On balance a good album that achieves absolution from all sins thanks to some nifty refrain although derivative and - most of the time - they turn the neon lights in our brain, illuminating the flashing ... cliché ... cliché ... cliche…
We hope to see them again soon on tour in these parts ... the POA are in fact the classic band to be enjoyed on stage with a beer in hand: Long life to characters as Lesli !!
